U.S. Deploys 200 Marines to Support ICE Operations in Florida
The U.S. military has deployed 200 Marines to Florida to provide logistical and administrative support to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the Department of Defense. The Marines will assist with non-law enforcement tasks inside ICE detention facilities and offices, including infrastructure, communications, and supply coordination.
Officials say the deployment is temporary and part of a broader effort to support ICE operations in high-demand states such as Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, where facilities are nearing capacity. The Pentagon and DHS stress that Marines will not participate in immigration enforcement.
The move has drawn criticism from civil rights groups and some lawmakers, who warn it could further blur the line between civilian and military roles and heighten fear in immigrant communities. Supporters argue it will ease staffing strains and improve efficiency without expanding enforcement authority.
Federal officials say the mission will remain limited in scope and subject to ongoing oversight.
