Critics feared some funds could benefit January 6 defendants and Trump allies.<\/p>\n<p>After weeks of backlash, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the administration would abandon the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not moving forward with the fund, period,\u201d Blanche said.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats remain skeptical, especially after Trump later suggested the idea could still return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love it,\u201d Trump said when asked about the proposal. \u201cI think it\u2019s so important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Republicans also voiced concerns, with Sen.
