One major dispute involved a proposed $1.776 billion settlement fund tied to Trump\u2019s lawsuit against the IRS over the release of his tax returns. Critics feared some funds could benefit January 6 defendants and Trump allies.<\/p>\n
After weeks of backlash, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the administration would abandon the proposal.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not moving forward with the fund, period,\u201d Blanche said.<\/p>\n
Democrats remain skeptical, especially after Trump later suggested the idea could still return.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love it,\u201d Trump said when asked about the proposal. \u201cI think it\u2019s so important.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some Republicans also voiced concerns, with Sen. Thom Tillis planning an amendment to block any future attempt to revive the fund.<\/p>\n
Republicans also removed about $1 billion for White House security projects, including Trump\u2019s proposed ballroom expansion, after criticism over taxpayer spending.<\/p>\n
